In keeping with the school motto, "We strive for the best", Mackay North State High School (MNSHS) will continue striving towards relevant engaging learning environments and experiences that meet the needs of our students in the 21st Century.  MNSHS is committed to continuing a 1-to-1 device to student ratio. That is why MNSHS will introduce Bring Your Own Device (BYOx) program for all grades. (The 'x' in the BYOx represents more than a personally-owned mobile device; it also includes software, applications, connectivity or carriage service.)

Students in years 7 to 12 are able to participate in the BYOx program to assist them with their studies in secondary schooling. These students are able to bring a Windows laptop or an Apple (Mac) laptop. Students can also bring iPads, but the preferred device that best suits the curriculum is a laptop. (Please note: - the school does not support Android devices or Chromebooks.)

Mackay North State High School has chosen to implement a BYOx model because:

  • To assist students to improve their learning outcomes in a contemporary educational setting.
  • Assist students to become responsible digital citizens that will prepare them for their future studies and careers.

Intune - Connecting to the school's network

Mackay North State High School has implemented a new Bring Your Own device (BYOx) technical service called Intune.

Intune service allows students to securely access the school's network, school email and mobile learning applications on their own devices. It provides seamless access to digital learning resources between school and home. Intune allows the school to distribute a wireless network profile and curriculum related applications to student's BYO devices.

  • School staff can only access school information through Intune and cannot:
  • see personal information
  • monitor what happens on the device
  • track or locate the device
  • see information on installed personal applications (other than school applications)
  • uninstall applications, including personal ones.

To the right are Intune installation guides for Windows and Macintosh devices. It is recommended you enrol the device at home or, if needed, you can enrol at school using the guest Wi-Fi service, EQGUEST.

If you are unsure whether you need to enrol a device into Intune or experiencing any problems enrolling into Intune, please contact the school's Tech Team in the school library.
